What are your fav 1960s bands? Can't Post

I am trying to get a poll for the decades and want a list of bands to include.

Please post bands from the 60s here so we can create a poll.

I love Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young--as far as folk music goes they're awesome. The Mamas and the Papas are cool too.

1960s pop bands... [In reply to] Can't Post

Well there is Neil Diamond, The Hollies, Temptations and of course the Rolling Stones. I did music GCSE but wasnt lucky enough to have been able to look at 'old skool' pop bands - what is your focus on them?

The Beatles weren't all that great. I like Neil Diamond and The Beach Boys. But everyone has their own taste I guess. Wink

OH GOD PEOPLE, STOP AND LISTEN TO YOURSELVES! "I don't like any 60's music" "Kiss, man!" GOOD GOD

first, Kiss is not a 60's band

second, 60s music may not be the most satisfying to listen to sometimes(no superheavy guitars, no yelling, no swearing), but a lot of psychilelic music is the most interresting (rock) ever created. Only bands such as Tool (and the Mars Volta i guess) nowadays are as experimental and interresting. Linkin Park? screw off. Good Charlotte? uh huh....

Best 60s bands

THE BEATLES like them or not they will stand as the most influential (pop/rock) band of all time. ever. without them, we might not have Tool Nirvana and, ahem, Linkin Park

JIMI HENDRIX the best guitarist ever. his wicked epic voodoo chile is fantastic, and All Along the Watchtower should be your favorite non-90's song.

ROLLING STONES too much bluesy stuff for my taste, not enough strait-up rock, but that didn't really exist until Zep put out Zeppelin I.

THE DOORS The End and LA Woman should rival all along the watchtower on your 60's list

JEFFERSON AIRLPLANE they make the list based on the strength of White Rabbit alone. One of the greatest psychidelic songs of all time

LED ZEPPELIN sure, maybe they're a 70s band, but their first (and best) album was recorded in '69. This gives them enough clout to break in the top 7 60s bands

THE VELVET UNDERGROUND velvet underground & nico is a great album.... like pink floyd, their influence is greater than their music (in my opinion). velvet underground influenced everyone from Tool to the Strokes.

Yes, the 60s were the second greatest decade for rock ever (after the 90s...), but undoubtedly the most important. The least important? yep, the 80s. Thank god for Sonic Youth, U2 and Metallica.

Yeh definetly the Who. but also the Velvet Underground and Cream. Hendrix is pretty madd too. umm.. im more of a rollingstones fan then the beatles, but i think a good copy of pet sounds trumps them both.

Re: [Jammer] What are your fav 1960s bands? [In reply to] Can't Post

Lots of great suggestions. A few additions:

Frank Zappa - During the last half of the 60's he shaped his band and his style into what became probably the most original and productive career.

Blood, Sweat & Tears - They only released two albums in the 60's, but some of their best songs are on them.

Cream - They must be mentioned in this context because they're the first Supergroup.

John Mayall's Bluesbreakers - Because John Mayall ran the scene in England and was mentor/springboard for the best musicians around at the time.

Harry Nilsson - Obviously he's not a band, but he's a favorite of mine, so I'll just move on to the next, shall I...

The Band - Released two of their brilliant albums in '68 and '69. The most remarkable thing with these guys (and there's plenty of them) is their comprehension and general understanding of music. They were all singers and they all had skills on several different instruments.

The Stooges - They participated in creating what would later be known as proto-punk almost a decade before the overrated Sex Pistols. And still going strong.

EDIT: Didn't notice the dates of these messages... Blush
Kinda slow...Unsure
