My Favorites are: S.T.P., Live, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Soungarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, etc.

Most definitely Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Radiohead, Rage, Soundgarden...but what about Placebo, Silverchair?....I'm so glad PJ Harvey got a mention, she is fantastic! And as for bands not formed during the 90s but still making cool music during that time U2, Bon Jovi, INXS and Nick Cave all deserve a mention along with many others...

There are obviously some really cool people with great music tastes out there!

The answer depends on how you interpret the question.
e.g. does "best" mean "most popular" or what we personally like the best?

If it is the former then sadly the answer has got to be the Spice Girls. Nirvana, Oasis and the rest don't even come close to their level of popularity.

If you want my personal opinion then I say the great "Frank Black and the Catholics" If you've never heard of FB (used to be Pixies front man Black Francis) then beg borrow or steal "Dog in the Sand" and "Pistolero", two truly great albums.
