Changing the Sound of Music Can't Post

New challenges and opportunities await all of us for 2004. The music industry is waking to the reality of falling record sales, pirating and most importantly, fairer opportunities for the unsigned talent, covering a spectrum of genre. A vast market, waiting to be unleashed.

Yes, the music industry will realize a need to move away from fads and one minute wonders, that are initiated on televised programmes such as Pop Idol and forced through the media, to the sheep of watchers. Weekend entertainment, for the non-musician, the dreamers or the wannabees. It does not truly represent any talent of the musical world, of this, or any other country. Such artists, that are clearly expressing their abilities, far exceed karaoke style competitions. This has been television domination, a visual interaction to maintain ratings, lifestyles of pocket liners and abusing the absent musician in the process.

Corporates are complaining of falling profits, declining record sales. Not surprisingly really, when there is a diverse, undiscovered variety of composers and players. But are they promoting music or the DVD and TV media. Do they really budget for the non-fashionable amongst the teenagers? How many top artists are now looking better than their musical or singing ability. How many perform live in the same way.

The opportunities and availability of new, ready made, ready to play, releases are in waiting. The industry does not have to suffer, it can grow, across all touch points of audio and visual media.
